The Winter Fuel Payment can help the people aged 60 or over to keep warm in winter.  It is a tax free payment which is normally paid in November, with the majority of payments made by Christmas.  The payments range from £250 to £400 to help with fuel bills and will be paid in the same way as pensions.

If you have not received it before, this applies to you:

If you were born on or before the 5th of July 1951 and you normally live in Great Britain or Northern Ireland on any day in the week of 17th to 23rd of September 2012, then you may get a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2012/13.  However, you will not qualify

if throughout that week:

The payment is paid for the household and will be paid directly into your bank account or by cheque, depending on what you have requested. You will find all this information and more by clicking the appropriate button below.

If you have received a Winter Fuel Payment before this applies to you:

If you received a Winter Fuel Payment last year and you still qualify (no change in your circumstances), you should get your payment automatically this year, so there is no need for you to re-apply. If there has been a change in your circumstances, then it is important to act now, as any change may affect whether you qualify for the payment or the amount you get.  To see the kind of changes to report and other useful information, as well as how much you may get click the relevant buttons below.
